Day 113: woohoo Yellowstone

8/12: mile 1979.8-2005.2
Miles: 25.4
Total trip miles: 1824.4

We get up earlier than has become a habit so we can hopefully get closer to Old Faithful. It's pretty much guaranteed we won't make our assigned campsite, it's over 35 miles away but the plan is to obviously get as close as we can.

It's cloudy but pleasant, nothing super exciting. Meadows, trees, and more old fire. Creek crossings lead to river crossings and by 8 it's raining.

It rains and thunders all morning, past the sandy shores of heart lake it switches it up and I start baking in the heat. At least I finally feel like I'm in Yellowstone, steaming and bubbling pools surround the climb up the valley.

Looking back at Heart Lake as we climb

I collapsed for a long lunch break hot and tired, and Funsize appeared! It was great to see him and we spent way too long catching up but it was totally worth it. Then it was more hours of forest walking and stopping near dark, short of our campsite but at least we got somewhere. Plus the river crossing that was supposed to be chest deep was only knew deep which was actually a pretty sweet end to the day.
